Project Plant Sept 30, 2011

First photos of my Project Plant.  I'm planning to take photos of my plant on a monthly basis and post them here and on my facebook album.  It's going to be interesting to see how well it grows :)

http://www.optimara.com/optimarafieldguide/varietiesm-z/molokai.html

In isolation for now. As my plants don't tend to grow very well in isolation, and the object of this is to get it to grow the best possible by May, I may not keep it in a container for as long... how well should I trust where it came from? Hmm...

The soil on this is very heavy.  I need to repot it into something lighter and will do that soon.

Click on the tag "Project Plant" to see all the blogs about this violet.  This is only number 2 so far but it's how to keep track of what's happening. :)

Pink NoID

I've waited for more than a year for this violet to bloom for me.  She finally put up one bloom stalk with two blossoms on it.  They're both open now and I hope they last a long time!  I'm also hoping that someone will be able to help me ID this violet at some point.  She's a beauty!

You can see the white edge better in this photo.

She's glittery too!

<3  I was going to give her away or toss her but that blossom has saved her for my collection!  <3

Put down new leaves

Today I put down leaves of the following:

Island Hideaway
Rechke Severka (not sure on the spelling of this one but it's a Russian Trailer)
Cutie
Christine
Maas Janet
Jolly Eyes
Rob's Cotton Ball
Rob's Dust Storm

Ness' Cranberry Lace
Cabbage Patch
Evensong
Strawberry Fringe

I moved the Iris babies from the moss into a pot with some soil.

I separated the babies on Richter's Charm Song and Richter's Sherbert.

Repotted leaves of Newtown's Quiet Resolve, Opt Trinidad, Chicago Flair, Jungle Print.

Repotted Lucky Me, Pow Wow, Tiger, and Perfect Harmony.

New plants from the Violet Sale

Here are photos of some of the plants that I came home with from the Violet Sale. :)

Maas' Janet - I have a leaf of this one.

Rob's Bahama Mama - I have leaves of this one
(I was told that this is likely Rebel's Rose Bud, not Rob's Bahama Mama. Either I took a photo of the wrong plant or else it was mislabeled.  I don't know.)

Rainbow's Quiet Riot - I have leaves of this one

Richter blossom photos

I wanted to have all of the info and photos that I have of Richter's plants all in one place.  This is all from Candy's blog.  Without Candy's efforts, most of these would be gone forever.  I have leaves down, or babies, of each of these but none of mine have grown large enough to bloom.

Either Candy's plant has been mislabeled, misidentified or reverted (throwback to a previous generation).  The original catalog description was as follows ""Huge baby pink fluffy double. Slightly frilled foliage.")

A note about growing Tipt. It needs to be placed at the center of your lights and maybe a little closer to the lights as well.
